Isomers

Isomers are molecule with same molecular formula but different structure e.g. nbutane and iso butane.

There are 8 types of Isomers

  • Constitutional-   different in order of connection of functional group
  • Stereoisomers – different in order of arrangement of atoms in bonds in space
  • Conformational or rotational – formed by rotation in bonds
  • Configurational – interchange at room temperatures
  • Enantiomers- optical isomers with non superimposed mirror image,
  • Diastereomers- Can be defined as stereoisomers that is not enantiomer and not an mirror image
  • Optical isomers – isomers with non superimposed 3D image
  • Geometric isomers – isomers with different spatial position and restricted rotation.
