Isomers are molecule with same molecular formula but different structure e.g. nbutane and iso butane.
There are 8 types of Isomers
- Constitutional- different in order of connection of functional group
- Stereoisomers – different in order of arrangement of atoms in bonds in space
- Conformational or rotational – formed by rotation in bonds
- Configurational – interchange at room temperatures
- Enantiomers- optical isomers with non superimposed mirror image,
- Diastereomers- Can be defined as stereoisomers that is not enantiomer and not an mirror image
- Optical isomers – isomers with non superimposed 3D image
- Geometric isomers – isomers with different spatial position and restricted rotation.
