Q. What is oxygen?

Ans. Oxygen is an electro-negative element. Other electro-negative elements are Cl₂ (Chlorine), Br ₂ (Bromine), I₂ (Iodine) and S (Sulphur).

Addition of oxygen or electro-negative element is called Oxidation reaction.

Na + O₂ -> NaO

H₂ + O₂ -> H₂O

S + O₂ -> SO₂

H₂ + Cl₂ -> HCl
