Oxidation reaction and Reduction reaction

To understand this type of reaction we must first see

Q. What is oxygen?

Ans. Oxygen is an electro-negative element. Other electro-negative elements are Cl2 (Chlorine), Br 2 (Bromine), I2 (Iodine) and S (Sulphur).

Addition of oxygen or electro-negative element is called Oxidation reaction.

Na + O2 -> NaO

H2 + O2 -> H2O

S + O2 -> SO2

H2 + Cl2 -> HCl
