To understand the principal of solute, solvent and solution we take a simple example of sugar or salt solution.

Sugar + water    –>   syrup (sugar solution)

Sugar is present in less quantity so it is solute.
Solvent is the liquid which is present in larger quantity.
Solution is mixture of solute and solvent.
